About AMCUP

In the Beginning

AMCUP is an acronym for Amanzimtoti Community Upliftment Project. AMCUP is a “not for gain” Company, Associated under Section 21. Founded in 2003 by Nico and wife Marie Jansen van Rensburg, the success of the project mainly reflects on the Grace of God.

AMCUP is unlike a typical drug rehabilitation centre in the sense of the core strategy that is used to try to treat people with addiction problems. Here at AMCUP we strongly believe that the only way for an addict to change his life is by establishing, building and maintaining a personal relationship with our Lord Jesus. Part of the 1 year programme includes a 6-month life-skills course which equips the person with valuable and practical information about how to deal with various every-day life challenges. Through structured discipline, care programs, ongoing counselling and the Word of God, AMCUP facilitates the heavy burden of getting a grip on one’s life again.

Close co-operation between churches, welfare and upliftment organizations in the region of Amanzimtoti has brought a high success rate of changed lives to many people. These include people who have lost their employment because of addiction, as well as due to all the hardships that life has thrown at them and in some cases, people that has lost everything (family and social status).

Projects

AMCUP also has several job creation projects which enable us to give work to quite a number of people. We oversee a feeding scheme which is called AMCUP Feeding Scheme. AMCUP Feeding Scheme sources foodstuffs from the major manufacturers and then distributes to organizations and churches who then feed the needy. At the moment we are helping 189 organizations and churches feeding 9600 people a month

Amcup also helps people to become self sufficient as far as food is concerned by teaching them to grow vegetables in tunnels. We manufacture these tunnels as part of our job creation projects. Through sponsorship from all the different churches in the community and private sector, we then make them available to the communities, thereby enabling them to become self sufficient in some of their needs.

AMCUP offers new hope to the discouraged and its 10 year existence is proof that the programme works. The job creation activities that are part of AMCUP enables the programme participants to get back into a normal work routine and apply all the responsibility-, self-management- and trust-associated characteristics needed to keep a work.

AMCUP thanks the Lord for all He has done.
